Chairman Clement Yang, who brought the spirit he forged through competitive judo training and national-level recognition in combat sports, is a man defined by endurance, resilience, and unwavering determination. The same spirit—never back down, never compromise—has profoundly shaped his entrepreneurial journey.

Before founding his own business, he spent a decade in the traditional textile industry. Determined to pursue a different path rather than replicate past experience, he chose to begin anew. A single patient gown order revealed the true nature of the medical textile field, an industry where quality and consistency are uncompromising, where demand is driven by long-term healthcare needs, and where work is deeply connected to human life. It is a path he knew was worth dedicating to.

In 1989, he made a bold decision to establish a factory in the Philippines. “With language alignment and transparent systems, it is a place ideal for long-term development,” he noted. Starting with patient gowns, the company gradually expanded into a full range of medical protective products and comprehensive hospital services.

In its early years, the brand focused on global markets and was named Medtecs, a fusion of Medical, Textile, and Technology, reflecting professionalism and innovation. After being listed in Taiwan, the company adopted the Chinese name 美德 (Měidé), meaning “virtuous values,” symbolizing integrity, quality, and adherence to international technical standards.

The company’s growth, however, was far from smooth. In one difficult year, a major client abruptly withdrew orders and poached key staff, resulting in significant losses. Drawing on resilience and perseverance, Chairman Yang led the team in rebuilding trust and reaffirming their mission to protect lives.

At the end of 2019, when a volcanic eruption struck the Philippines, Medtecs immediately activated its emergency production lines. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, he expanded mask production within a week, raising monthly output to tens of millions of pieces. Even retired employees returned to support, and the entire workforce worked day and night. Letters of gratitude from partners and institutions worldwide stand as a testament to the impact of Medtecs’ efforts.

Today, Medtecs’ products have moved beyond the medical frontline into everyday life, spanning face masks, coveralls, insect repellents, acne patches, disinfectants, and medical-grade gloves, creating a head-to-toe protection system.

Within the company, Medtecs stands shoulder to shoulder with its employees, offering vaccination insurance, hazard allowances, and team-building programs. Its corporate culture is built on a set of core competencies, digital transformation, ESG sustainability, and international philanthropy, bringing “professionalism with warmth” into daily practice.
